23rd March, 2010 marked the day of rewards for the well deserved candidates as La Martiniere Girls’ College celebrated their annual prize distribution function for the academic year 2009-2010.
The chief guest of the occasion was Nirmala Fenn, an eminent social activist. The program instigated with the academic procession, which was followed by the welcome address by the principal, Farida Abraham. A special song “Pass it on” presented by the college junior choir followed the distribution of prizes for the junior school.
The Principal of the college read out the annual report where she spoke on salient issues like academic, co-curricular activities, inter-school events, sports, social work and La Martiniere Girls’ Alumini Association (LMGAA). The event proceeded with the distribution of prizes for the middle and the senior school. Members of the staff, which completed 20 years of service, were awarded Mementos. The list of those feted included S Cooke, S Das Gupta and R Ali. The College honored C Cornellius, a Retired Member of staff for her selfless dedication to college. The La Martiniere Girls’ Alumni Association gave award for dedicated service to I Madan from La Martiniere Girls’ College and Desmond Shaw from La Martiniere College. The day turned lucky for the Cornwallis House as they won the cup for academics. Hudson House won the sports and the athletics cup and Cornwallis House won the Cock House Trophy.
The college choir once again rendered a special number, “Power of the dream”. The chief guest addressed the audience and told the children how each one of us should help the other and only then we would have a happy earth to live on.
