A seminar was organized by National P. G. Degree College, Lucknow on 17th February, 2010. The seminar was based on “Suicide Reason and Remedy”, where Professor Harjeet Singh in his speech said that fifty-seven per cent of suicides are acts of frustration. Sixty-eight per cent of family members of suicide victims had no clue that such an attempt would be made by one of their family members. He further told the people present there that it is not a personal or financial crisis, but it is the mental tension that leads to a person to commit suicide.
Speaking in the seminar, Professor Mukta Rani said that, suicide is done intentionally and voluntarily. Suicide is not the sudden reaction but is the cause of many reasons.
Professor Dev said that, rapid socio – economic changes without an adequate social support network could be a major reason. This is why suicides is seen mainly between the age group of 15-44. People who commit suicide were not mentally ill but could not face the humiliation and adversities of life.
Senior IPS and Former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Shre Ram Arun, said that suicidal cases should be taken seriously because police department is also facing the pressure.
Students who attended the seminar were happy with the discussions. The seminar helped them to grow mentally and learnt the biggest lesson that failure should always be taken positively.
Dr S.P Singh, Principle of National P. G. Degree College, Ex IAS Dr Parmanand Mishra, Dr S.A Ali, Prof. D.P Singh, and Maulind Mishra President (LUTA) also expressed their views in this seminar.
