Convocation

Lucknow. 3rd February 2010, “In my view, higher education, research and its complimentary technological domain have to be pursued hand – in hand with freedom for people within each of these domains to work across their respective domain boundaries. Today, we seem to have created tall boundary walls with all openings guarded by an inflexible system of rules that neither nurture excellence nor cooperative working across these boundaries. All this must change. We should reach a situation in which an academic or researcher is respected in industry for his or her technological insights and a technologist is respected in an academic or research environment for the academic enrichment and multidisciplinary capability”, said Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor and Former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission Government of India, while addressing the students of Lucknow University at its Convocation 2010.

The Convocation took place at University of Lucknow – Arts Quadrangle and the Governor of the State, B. L. Joshi, distributed the degrees to the students. The function started with robing of 'His Excellency the Chancellor', which was followed by students’ presentation of “Kulgeet”.

The event proceeded with the welcoming of His Excellency, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Chancellor of University Shri B. L. Joshi, Chief Guest of Convocation Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Minister of Higher Education Uttar Pradesh, Shri Rakesh Dhar Tripathiji, Members of the Executive Council, Academic Council, and University Court, by Vice – Chancellor of University Prof. Manoj Kumar Mishra.

According to university officials, approximately 174 students were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. These students included those who scored above 70% marks. Akansha Saroch, Amit Kumar Mishra, Ankita Singh, Anshika Singh, Archana Makhija, Arunita Chatterjee, Ashish Verma, Asma, Asra, Babita Singh Rawat, Chintan Dixit, Dr. Arti Pandey, Dr. Anupma Srivastava and other 159 students were amongst those who were felicitated for their excellent marks.

Chancellor B. L. Joshi while remembering Pandit Nehru’s views, “A university stands for humanism, for tolerance, for the adventure of ideas and for the search of truth. It stands for the onward march of the human race towards even higher objectives. If the universities discharge their duties adequately, them all is well with the nation and the people”, wished all the students luck and closed the Convocation on a positive note.
